Local Trail - Merimbula to Pambula

Trail Difficulty: Moderate

Merimbula to Pambula via the Beach

Getting there

This description starts from the main Merimbula entry to the beach (Main Beach) which is from the car park at Ford park. You could do the run in the other direction starting at Pambula SLSC.

The track

It's pretty simple. Head south on the beach until you get to Pambula (there is a park with a walkway at the end), and then turn back and return to Merimbula. At Merimbula you are looking for the wooden 'lookout', that is Ford Park where you started. It is a straight forward relatively easy run if you do it at low tide, however, if you do it at high tide it is very hard with lots of running on sloping soft sand. It is 5.5km to Pambula, you are at half way when you pass the outfall pipe, the beach is long enough that the distance will play with your head...

Difficulty

It can be easy (but only in low tide, otherwise it will be a very difficult adventure).

Connections

The beach is not far from the Merimbula Paths trail mentioned in this site, and if you head down Elizabeth street from the carpark you can link up with it. At the Pambula end if you head onto Pambula beach road you will see a trail after about 700m heading off on the left, this will take you into Pambula town which is about 3km from the beach.

Note

This is cracking run to do at dawn, there is nothing better than running along the beach in the early morning with the occassional pod of dolphins playing nearby, and in season, even the odd whale.
