Local Trail - Mundooi
Trail Difficulty: Easy
Merimbula to Tura via Mundooi track
Getting there
The trail is best accessed from the footbridge off Munn street behind Merimbula Public School. Follow Munn street past the primary school for about 300 meters, there is a footbridge off to your right which goes over Merimbula Creek (Back Lake).
The track
After the footbridge the track meanders briefly through some wetlands before making a short sharp climb onto an embankment which follows the edge of Back Lake (which you can see on your right). After a couple of kilometers the track hits a T junction (the actual Mundooi track). Turn left and follow the trail through the beach sandhills until it heads inland again briefly and up over a small headland. You can then follow the trail behind the houses down to the main entrance to Tura beach.
Difficulty
The trail is relatively easy with very little elevation. It is quite tricky and rocky in sections (certainly not navigable with a pram). The distance to Tura beach entrance is approximately 3km.
Connections
- If you turn right at the T junction you can head to Short Point (approximately 800 metres)
- There are various tracks off to your left which head either into Mirador, or into Tura. The best would be the junction approximately 200 metres before the T junction (not far after the creek) which heads up to Nolans drive.
- You can continue along the edge of the golf course to connect with tracks to Tura Headland and Dolphin Cove.
