Local Trail - Tura to Bournda
Trail Difficulty: Easy
Tura Head carpark to Bournda carpark - 4km one way
Getting there
The track start is the Tura Head carpark off Headland Drive.
The Track
Entrance to trail is at the north corner of the carpark at the edge of the grassy area (ie, the opposite corner to the gate/trail to Tura Head). For reference, shortly after the start it crosses a wooden packing pallet. Follow the trail along inside the forested area, parallel to the grassland for approximately 600m to an intersection. Turn right to the intersection towards Dolphin cove. After a couple of hundred metres you reach a grassy section where the trail is not so defined. Once you leave the forested area you are in an open grassland behind the houses. As you make your way to the wooden lookout and stairs you have dramatic views up the coast towards Bournda. Take the stairs down to the beach and across a short stretch to the stairs on the other side of the creek (usually no water to cross). Climb the stairs and take the short trail to the right to stay in the bush around the outside of the houses. The trail comes back out into the clearing behind more houses. Once you reach a defined sandy 4WD track on your right (1.5km from the start), travel along this. Follow this for about 300m, veering left uphill towards Sapphire Coast Drive. Turn right at 1.8km and head directly onto the single track straight ahead. Follow this single track until it intersects with another larger track and continue the same direction. Continue on the track, which becomes narrower, and follow it until about 3km where it comes out onto Widgeram Road, the main dirt road into Bournda NP and North Tura Beach (note that there are some short side tracks which may give views, but follow the main single track). Turn right and travel about 1km along the road to the carpark at North Tura Beach. There is a lookout, toilet, picnic tables etc at the carpark. Return the same way.
Difficulty
Easy (includes stairs and sand)
